Southern Oregon

Picture
Grandma and Grandpa's 65th wedding anniversary party was at mom's brothers house in Southern Oregon, so we spent a few days there celebrating and saw some sites.  Mom said I had to look my best for the party and gave me another bath.  Can you believe it . . . the second one this month!  Grandpa took pity on me and held me until I was dry.  He's a good grandpa!

The party was a backyard BBQ.  We had steaks, baked potatoes, fruit salad, and all kinds of wonderful food.  Mom's sister-in-law from Texas baked a half sheet cake and decorated it.  It was a great party!

I hid under the table and got lots of scraps!  The steak was especially good!

Mom and I stayed at a counsins house while we were in Southern Oregon.  They had three big cats, and one of them was intent on stalking me!

Our cousins live out in the country kinda in the mountains.  They have deer that visit almost every evening, and we got to see a couple up fairly close!

We visited a museum in the small town where mom's brother lives.

We also visited the Butte Creek Mill.
It is an undershot water-wheel grist mill that is still active.

This is what Butte Creek Mill looks like today.
Below is a picture of what it looked like in about 1875.

Inside the mill, on the lower floor, they sometimes give demonstrations on how the grain is processed.  On the main floor is a small store where you can see displays of old grocery type items such as the coffee and spice cans above.

You can also purchase grains and cereals that have been processed in the mill and other gift items.
There is also a display of old tools and equipment.

Not to far away is another historical point of interest.  It is an old wood house built in the 1870's that is being restored and preserved by a non-profit group.

There are some neat old tractors and other farm equipment around it.
