McCloud River Loop
and Burney Falls

Picture

Once we left Oregon, we headed for mom's niece's house near Lassen Park.  On the way, mom saw a sign that mentioned waterfalls and we were off on another exploration adventure!

We were following along the McCloud River in Northern California and mom was surprised to find that it had not one, but three, waterfalls and one of them was truly spectacular!

This waterfall was easy to get to,
just a short walk down a few stairs right in the picnic area!

These ground squirrels were really enjoying a feast of sunflower seeds left by someone.  Check out the guy with the full cheeks in the picture below!

Middle Falls
This was the view of middle falls from the viewing platform.

Mom really wanted to see the falls from water level, so off we went,
hiking a real switchback trail down into the canyon.

The hike was absolutely worth every step!

Back at the top, we had a great view of Mount Shasta.
I was very tired and thirsty from the hike out, so I laid down and had a good long drink!

Upper Falls

Upper falls was also  easy to access.
It was just a short walk on a fairly level trail from the parking lot.

The McCloud River above the
falls was very beautiful and
peaceful looking, and I got
to go wading again!

Not too much further down the road, maybe about an hour, we came to Burney Falls.  They are very beautiful too!
