Jim Bridger (below left) was a hunter, trapper, fur trader and guide.  He discovered the Great Salt Lake in 1824,  and South Pass in 1827.  Bridger visited the Yellowstone area in 1830 and founded Fort Bridger in 1843.

This is one of those carts pulled by the Morman travelers.  Can you imagine pulling one for 2,000 miles yourself?  I can't even imagine riding on one that far!
